The Minority and Women’s Business Development Office (OMWBD) is committed to serving businesses owned by minority, women, Latinos, veterans, and people with disabilities. The agency helps create contracting opportunities for city, council, county, and privately funded projects in downtown Indiana.
The program believes in and supports inclusion and diversity, helping companies and service providers qualified as minority to have an opportunity in the North American market.
But what is the reason for a company to hire an OMWBD?
Commitment to supplier diversity benefits a company with the following factors:
•Promotes innovation
•Introduction of new products, services and solutions.
•Diverse channels to acquire goods and services.
•Drives competition (in pricing and service levels)
•Access to a rich network of relationships
The SBA (Small Business Administration), which works directly with government agencies, is responsible for ensuring that companies adhere to the minimum requirement for hiring companies that qualify as a minority.
Large first-tier suppliers and even federal government agencies are required to subcontract a certain amount of minority suppliers.
Oneworld provides services such as opening your company in the United States, opening a bank, business and personal account, applying for minority company qualification and connecting with buyers and service providers in Indiana.
Below is a small sample of the minority percentage broken down by qualifications:
•Minority-Owned Business Company (e.g. Latinos) (MBE): 15%
•Women-owned business (WBE): 8%
•Veterans-Owned Business Company (VBE): 3%
•Disabled Business Company (DOBE): 1%
